We are thrilled that Dwight Douthit, an award-winning graphic designer, will take the time to create our logo!   One of our newest members, Dwight served as a delegate to the Texas Democratic Convention in Austin from SD 13. The logo unveiling will take place this summer.

Charles Hernandez Led the Pride Voter ID Project for HASD!

San-Francisco-Harvy-Milk-Plaza-Gay-Flag-Photographic-Print-C12325238.jpgThis year, Jack Valinski of the GLBT Caucus coordinated the most ambitious Voter ID Pride Project ever.  When HASD was invited to participate, we knew Charles Hernandez was the perfect leader!  With Charles in charge, we easily completed our assignment of working the parade staging area.  From parade participants, our volunteers gathered emails and other contact information to help mobilize our community for the November election and beyond.

Charles was a tireless member of the SD 13 Nominations Committee, and a delegate to the Texas Democratic Convention.

Our president, Teresa Herrin, was elected to serve as VP of the TSDC at the Texas Democratic Convention in Austin on June 6. TSDC is the statewide umbrella organization for Stonewall Democrats. During her two-year term, Teresa will also serve on the State Democratic Executive Committee. The two SDEC seats specifically designated for GLBT Democrats are held by the president and vice-president of TSDC. Teresa is eager to represent Houston GLBT Democrats on both boards.  Click here for Dallas Voice article.

HASD Members Elected National Delegates

denver2008new.jpgThree members of the Houston Area Stonewall Democrats will represent Texas at the Democratic National Convention in Denver -- Victor Castillo, John Grothues, and Teresa Herrin.  With more than 7,000 people vying for the 225 Texas delegate slots, the competition was intense.

All three are delegates for Senator Clinton.  John was elected from the Senate District 15 Caucus.  While Victor and Teresa won the only two Clinton delegate positions from Senate District 13.

National Stonewall Democrats worked with the DNC and state parties to implement "Pride in the Party", a program to ensure GLBT representation at the Democratic National Convention.  Each state committed to having a threshold number of GLBT national delegates.  The Texas Democratic Party exceeded their goal of 14-18 GLBT national delegates.  Texas is sending 19 GLBT delegates to Denver.
