PROJECT 500

This month, we are launching our 2008 Election plan.  The goal is simple -- build a network of 500 GLBT activists in precincts throughout our five-county region.

First, we will focus on Harris County where we are working closely with the Democratic Coordinated Campaign.  This million-dollar campaign is focused on turning Harris County blue -- solid blue!  Every Democratic nominee on the November ballot is part of this integrated effort.

Bill Kelly, the general manager of the campaign, is setting up ten satellite headquarters across Harris County.  We will plug our GLBT volunteers into the Coordinated Campaign network.  By working together, we accomplish more and avoid duplication of effort.

With Project 500, each person works in their own neighborhood!  No long commutes or high fuel costs.  In fact, no one even has to travel to the Central Harris County Democrat Party headquarters.  Each satellite office is professionally staffed with a member of the Harris County Democratic Coordinated Campaign.  The regional headquarters will also serve as the phone bank and material distribution centers -- the hub of Democratic activity in the region.

To organize our GLBT network of precinct activists, a volunteer HASD Regional Coordinator will be assigned to each of the ten areas.  Each HASD Coordinator will help identify, train, and lead a team of HASD precinct captains.

Help us build this county-wide network of 500 GLBT Democratic volunteers.  Imagine how much can be accomplished by 500 activists simply working in their own neighborhoods.  Not only will we help turn Harris solid blue, but we will also flip a couple of key Texas House seats!
